University of Leeds

The Brief
The Solution
After an initial meeting to review scope and limitations, we carried out a full site survey and provided a curated selection of samples. The chosen finish was a grey woodgrain from the Metamark MiA range – a contemporary upgrade from the existing beech laminate, and a better fit for the space’s updated aesthetic.
We worked closely with the university’s team to schedule the works during the summer break, ensuring the room would be fully refurbished before students returned.
The Process
With access confirmed, we completed the project over four days, installing more than 150 metres of vinyl film across:
• Lecture theatre tables
• Floor-facing panels
• Exposed fronting elements
Many of the surfaces were worn or chipped, so we prepped them in advance – filling, sanding, and smoothing out damage before applying the film. The result was a smooth, clean finish that looked like entirely new furniture.
The Transformation
The change from dated beech laminate to a sleek grey wood finish brought the space up to today’s design standards, instantly modernising the look and feel of the room. What made this particularly effective was the preservation of the existing table structures, which were still perfectly functional. Ripping them out would have caused unnecessary disruption and added cost, but wrapping delivered the same visual upgrade without the hassle.
