Frequently Asked
Questions

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW…

We have put together a comprehensive list of the most frequently asked questions about vinyl wrapping with Fusion Surfaces.

What can you wrap?

If you use your imagination, there are plenty of uses for architectural film. Some of the things we’ve vinyl wrapped include hotel-fitted furniture, student accommodation furnituredoors, walls, barsreception desks and kitchens.

How durable is architectural film?

There are many kinds of vinyl to work with, but with architectural film, the quality and, therefore, the durability is much better. The adhesion (glue) life is between 7-10 years, although has been known to last much longer. As with anything, the better you look after it, the longer it will last. The architectural film we install has a scratch-resistant layer and handles knocks and bumps well. If you are installing architectural film onto a surface that is a high-traffic area, such as a worktop, you are more likely to experience damage as a result.

How long does vinyl wrapping take?

This all depends on what is being wrapped and the complexity of the job. However, as a guide, a room with hotel-fitted furniture will take approximately one day if it is straightforward. A small to medium-sized kitchen will also take around one day if the cupboards are flat.

Why choose Fusion for a vinyl wrapping project?

Believe me when I tell you, we have seen everything there is to see on vinyl wrapping projects. We want to make a difference when we get on-site, the wrapping is usually the showstopper. If it can’t be done, we will tell you beforehand. We know we are competitive on price.

Our installers are highly skilled and finish the job to the best possible standard, and we are available to help you out with everything from design choices to managing the project. We care that your project runs smoothly, on time and looks great at the end because that’s what we’ve built our reputation on.

How much does it cost?

Again, this varies from project to project. As a minimum, you will be looking at around £500 for a kitchen. On the other hand, we have completed commercial projects upwards of £100,000. It will all depend on the amount of material you need and the complexity of the job.

Is vinyl wrapping sustainable?

Although vinyl wrapping is not 100% sustainable, it is a significantly more sustainable option than replacing anything. The amount of perfectly good furniture that goes to landfill every day is shocking and completely avoidable by using vinyl wrapping as an alternative.

Although we have to factor in air miles for the material, everything from the boxes it comes in down to the backing paper is recycled. This is usually the equivalent of a bin bag size (although we reuse gardening bins for our rubbish too!) rather than a skip load of furniture.

Is vinyl wrapping kitchen safe?

Yes, it is safe to vinyl wrap your kitchen. The architectural films we use are fire-rated and CE-marked, so even after your kitchen has been wrapped, you can be sure that the vinyl we have used is as safe as it could be in the event of a fire. Always check with your installation company about the fire rating of the material they are using.

How do you clean the vinyl?

The vinyl can be cleaned as you would normally clean the surface and can be wiped down with cleaning products that are typically used.

What are the environmental benefits?

If you like to watch your carbon footprint, you won’t enjoy the thought of a mountain of furniture making its way to landfills when all it needs is a makeover. Vinyl wrapping leaves no waste, and even the backing paper is recycled afterwards, making it the greener choice in comparison to replacement.

What preparation is needed?

We will clean and prime surfaces prior to wrapping. If any additional prep work needs to be done, i.e. filling and sanding, we complete this at the same time. If you are a customer, all we ask is that the surfaces are clear before we start work.

What if my surface has existing damage? Can it still be wrapped?

Many surfaces can be filled and repaired as part of our prep work. Once wrapped, you would never know there was damage there. However, in some circumstances, wrapping would not be suitable for a surface. If the surface was completely broken in half, replacing would be the best option.

Will the vinyl peel, fade or lift after a few years?

There should not be any peeling or fading using architectural film. Any areas where peeling could occur will be primed before wrapping to ensure this doesn’t happen.

What designs do you offer?

We primarily use LX (previously LG) Hausys interior film and the brochure can be found on our website. There are hundreds of designs and many variations of these can be found amongst other brands, Coverstyl and 3M. There are interior film designs to suit every budget.

Where do you service?

For larger commercial projects, we have the capacity to travel all over the UK. Domestic work, primarily kitchen wrapping, we carry out over the North West to ensure costs are kept down for homeowners.

What sectors do you work with?

Student accommodation blockshotels andofficeshave been where we have completed most of our work to date, although we have done projects in education, hospitality and domestic work too.

Is there a guarantee?

We offer a two-year installation guarantee in line with the vinyl manufacturer’s guarantee of two years. This covers any installation problems, although not any damage that has not been caused by us.

Rosie Christie

Co-Founder

Older than the rest of the team, but not necessarily wiser as she’d like to think. There’s not an activity under the sun that she’s not been willing to have a go at, resulting in a mediocre ukulele player, part-time blogger, one-time skydiver and an unfinished sitcom script. There’s no room for shades of grey in this half of the partnership; everything comes down to looking after people who are important.

Organising tradesmen is not a task for the fainthearted. But recruiting the right tradesmen, ones who align with our values and are highly skilled at what they do makes for a much more harmonious project management process. Rosie’s role begins with a meeting to discuss your requirements, providing you with a quotation and carries through to the on-site management of your project.

Jade Mitchell

Co-Founder

She’s the only Southerner on the team, but we try not to hold it against her too much. If anything, we’ve enjoyed introducing Jade to a vast number of pie shops now she’s a Northern resident. Standing at a phenomenal 5’2”, she is living proof that big things come in small packages; a mix of infectious enthusiasm, laughter, loyalty, authority and uncanny Theresa May impressions.

Communicating with our clients is Jade’s forte. Being highly organised and placing customer satisfaction at the forefront of everything she does means that from enquiry to completion, your queries will be dealt with efficiently. For an in depth knowledge of the material specification of our interior film, Jade is your woman. She will put your mind at rest that not only do we install this product, but we make sure that is the most suitable for your needs.
