Office Lift Interior Refurbishment
The Brief
FI Real Estate approached Fusion Surfaces during the refurbishment of The Bulb office building in Southampton. Having partnered on numerous projects before, they asked our team to modernise the building’s lifts as part of a wider improvement to the reception and communal areas. The project focused on refurbishing both the interior and exterior lift surfaces to create a more sophisticated first impression for tenants and visitors. The existing lifts remained in good condition structurally, so the goal was to update their appearance without replacing them. This made office lift interior refurbishment using architectural vinyl wrapping the ideal solution.
The Solution
Working with FI Real Estate, we selected a black stone architectural film finish to bring a more premium look to the lift interiors and surrounding surfaces.
The LX Hausys architectural film range provided both durability and fire safety compliance, making it suitable for a commercial office environment. The stone-effect finish replaced the previous plain surfaces with a more refined and contemporary aesthetic.
In addition to the architectural film, we also installed graphics within the lift interiors, adding another layer of visual detail that complemented the building’s updated reception area.
The Process
The refurbishment required careful coordination to ensure the lifts could be upgraded safely.
Two installers completed the project over two days. To allow the team to wrap the lift doors and reveals correctly, an engineer temporarily secured the lift doors during the installation process.
Although the lifts were already in good condition, minor preparation work ensured a flawless finish before applying the architectural film. In total, around 50 metres of black stone vinyl was used across the lift interiors and surrounding areas.

The Transformation
A More Refined Lift Environment
The completed refurbishment significantly improved the appearance of the lift spaces.
What were previously simple lift interiors now feature a bold black stone finish that complements the building’s reception design. The addition of graphics inside the lifts introduces a more modern and branded environment for building occupants.
Through office lift interior refurbishment, the building gained a more premium and cohesive look without replacing the existing lift infrastructure.
Client Advantages
The project delivered several key benefits for FI Real Estate:
Lift interiors and exteriors refurbished without replacement
Architectural film installed across doors, reveals and internal surfaces
Custom graphics applied inside the lifts
Installation completed within two days
Minimal disruption to the building’s operations
Furthermore, refurbishing the existing lifts reduced costs and avoided the waste associated with replacing lift panels.
Conclusion
The Bulb Southampton project demonstrates how office lift interior refurbishment can transform key areas of a commercial building quickly and efficiently.
By combining architectural vinyl wrapping with lift graphics, Fusion Surfaces delivered a modern and sophisticated upgrade that enhances the reception experience for tenants and visitors. The project also strengthened our ongoing partnership with FI Real Estate as they continue modernising their office portfolio.
