A Designer’s Guide to Choosing the Right Vinyl Finish

vinyl finishes

Every designer knows the pressure: your demanding client wants a complete transformation, but the space must stay open and the budget remains under lock and key. You need something fast, flexible and full of style. The solution is vinyl wrapping. It has become the quiet revolution in hotels, gyms and commercial interiors, which is why designers across the UK are embracing it.

Architectural films are clever creatures. They mimic timber, stone, metal or leather with such accuracy that most people never guess the difference. They install cleanly, age beautifully and can be refreshed whenever you want a new look. For designers, it means freedom to rethink a space without the mess or hassle of traditional refurbishment, or a budget that is giving the Financial Director a stroke.

Start with the mood

Before you even look at samples, think about the feeling you want. Matte films are calm and quietly luxurious. They soften light, hide small marks and bring an immediate sense of ease; perfect for spa retreats, hotel suites and wellness areas where everything needs to breathe.

If the brief calls for more energy, look to texture and colour. Concrete, brushed steel or rich tones can add confidence and focus. Vinyl lets you change the pace of a space without ripping anything out or begging for extra cash.

Add character without complication

Whatever the weather, in fashion terms, metallics never really go out of style. A touch of copper on a bar front or a line of brass along a counter adds instant polish. It catches the light, adds glamour and looks expensive, yet can be installed in a matter of hours.

Wood grain finishes are equally classy. Modern films capture the warmth and tactility of real timber and work well on doors, joinery and feature walls, creating depth and comfort without the upkeep of solid wood.

Design for real life

A busy space needs finishes that can cope. Vinyl is made for high traffic areas where durability is as important as beauty. With the right prep and product choice, it stands up to constant cleaning and daily wear. At The Woodland Spa in Burnley, we wrapped lifts, vanity units and wall panels during a major expansion. Guests continued to use the facilities throughout. In just two days the space looked brand new, and no one realised work had even been done.

Keep it flexible

Interiors evolve, and so do brands. Vinyl makes it easy to adapt without the waste or disruption of a rebuild. Rewrapping existing surfaces gives you the freedom to refresh whenever you like. It is practical, sustainable and good for budgets that need to stretch a little further.

Layer and balance

Designers know that interiors which work the best are the ones with rhythm. Matching finishes across details or contrasting textures for subtle drama gives a design its flow. A matte wall beside a polished surface, or a timber tone set against a cool metallic, creates balance and personality. Vinyl makes this easy, letting you experiment until everything feels just right.

Rosie Christie

Co-Founder

Older than the rest of the team, but not necessarily wiser as she’d like to think. There’s not an activity under the sun that she’s not been willing to have a go at, resulting in a mediocre ukulele player, part-time blogger, one-time skydiver and an unfinished sitcom script. There’s no room for shades of grey in this half of the partnership; everything comes down to looking after people who are important.

Organising tradesmen is not a task for the fainthearted. But recruiting the right tradesmen, ones who align with our values and are highly skilled at what they do makes for a much more harmonious project management process. Rosie’s role begins with a meeting to discuss your requirements, providing you with a quotation and carries through to the on-site management of your project.

Jade Mitchell

Co-Founder

She’s the only Southerner on the team, but we try not to hold it against her too much. If anything, we’ve enjoyed introducing Jade to a vast number of pie shops now she’s a Northern resident. Standing at a phenomenal 5’2”, she is living proof that big things come in small packages; a mix of infectious enthusiasm, laughter, loyalty, authority and uncanny Theresa May impressions.

Communicating with our clients is Jade’s forte. Being highly organised and placing customer satisfaction at the forefront of everything she does means that from enquiry to completion, your queries will be dealt with efficiently. For an in depth knowledge of the material specification of our interior film, Jade is your woman. She will put your mind at rest that not only do we install this product, but we make sure that is the most suitable for your needs.
