Sustainable Aparthotel Refurbishment
The Brief
Staycity Aparthotel in Birmingham wanted to refurbish several apartments while maintaining their commitment to sustainability. Rather than replacing furniture and sending usable materials to landfill, the team explored ways to refresh existing surfaces. The refurbishment covered 15 apartments, including internal doors, guest-side entrance doors and wardrobes within each room. The challenge was to modernise these elements while working within an operational aparthotel environment. Following a successful trial room installation the previous year, Staycity invited Fusion Surfaces to expand the solution across additional apartments using architectural film matched to the brand’s RAL colour scheme.
The Solution
Architectural vinyl wrapping provided the ideal balance between sustainability and efficiency.
During the initial trial installation, the architectural film proved durable in a high-traffic hospitality setting. A follow-up inspection several months later confirmed the finish remained in excellent condition. With that confidence, Staycity proceeded with a wider rollout using LX Hausys architectural film matched to their brand colour palette.
This approach allowed the aparthotel to retain existing furniture while achieving a consistent and modern interior design.
The Process
Because the apartments form part of an operational hospitality environment, careful scheduling was essential.
Fusion Surfaces coordinated closely with the main contractor to install the architectural film during a wider refurbishment phase when the apartments were temporarily out of service. Over two days, a team of five installers completed the refurbishment across the 15 apartments.
Preparation played an important role in achieving a high-quality finish. Each painted door was sanded to create a smooth surface before the architectural film was applied. In total, the project involved wrapping 45 internal doors, 15 wardrobes and 15 guest-side entrance doors.
The updated interiors introduced a noticeably warmer and more contemporary feel to each apartment.
Previously stark white doors and wardrobes were replaced with a dark grey finish that aligns with Staycity’s modern brand style. The result integrates seamlessly with the wider refurbishment works across the aparthotel.
Through sustainable aparthotel refurbishment, the apartments gained a refreshed and consistent interior appearance without replacing any of the existing furniture.

Client Advantages
The project delivered several key benefits for Staycity:
15 apartments refurbished using existing furniture
75 surfaces wrapped across doors and wardrobes
Installation completed within two days
Architectural film matched precisely to the brand’s RAL colour
Significant reduction in material waste compared with replacement
Most importantly, the refurbishment supported Staycity’s sustainability goals by preventing large volumes of furniture from entering landfill.
Conclusion
The Birmingham project demonstrates how sustainable aparthotel refurbishment can modernise hospitality interiors while reducing environmental impact.
By using architectural vinyl wrapping, Fusion Surfaces refreshed multiple apartments quickly and efficiently while preserving existing materials. The result is a modernised interior that aligns with Staycity’s design standards and reinforces their commitment to responsible refurbishment practices.
