Community Centre Washroom Refurbishment

The Brief

Over Community Centre in Cambridge required a community centre washroom refurbishment to modernise its male and female bathrooms, which had become worn through years of regular public use.

However, the facility operates daily community programmes and could not close for major building works. The client therefore needed a fast, cost-effective solution that would refresh the space while keeping disruption to a minimum.

The Solution

Fusion Surfaces proposed a commercial vinyl wrapping solution that allowed existing washroom infrastructure to be upgraded rather than replaced. By applying architectural film directly to vanity units, cubicles, doors and IPS panels, the team transformed the appearance of the space without major building works.

This approach provided a fast, cost-effective refurbishment while delivering a clean, modern aesthetic designed to withstand frequent use. The selected finishes improved consistency throughout the washrooms while significantly reducing downtime compared with traditional refurbishment methods.

The Process

Fusion Surfaces delivered the refurbishment using specialist commercial vinyl wrapping, allowing IPS panels, cubicle systems, doors and vanity units to be transformed in place.

Because the centre remained operational, installation was carefully coordinated around daily activities. As a result, the team dismantled, repaired and wrapped components in phases, keeping facilities usable for most of the project.

Careful preparation, surface repairs and precise installation allowed the entire programme to be completed within just three days.

Works were completed efficiently, allowing the facility to reopen upgraded spaces quickly without extended closures.

The Transformation

Following completion, the washrooms presented a clean, modern and welcoming environment aligned with the centre’s role as a busy community hub.

Previously tired surfaces were replaced by cohesive finishes that improved both appearance and durability. Importantly, the upgrade delivered the visual impact of a full renovation without demolition or extended downtime.

Consequently, visitors now experience facilities that better reflect the centre’s commitment to providing comfortable spaces for local users.

The Outcome

The rapid turnaround proved highly effective for both the client and building users.

The washrooms remained functional for the majority of the project, while disruptive construction work was avoided entirely. Once installation finished, the refurbished areas appeared brand new despite retaining the original infrastructure.

This project demonstrates how vinyl wrapping can modernise high-use public facilities quickly and efficiently.

Client Advantages

The refurbishment approach delivered several key benefits:

  • Significant cost savings compared with full replacement

  • Minimal disruption to community activities

  • Reduced material waste through reuse of existing fixtures

  • Extended lifespan of washroom facilities

  • Faster delivery compared with traditional refurbishment methods

Furthermore, refurbishing rather than replacing allowed the centre to continue serving the local community throughout the works.

Co-Founder

Older than the rest of the team, but not necessarily wiser as she’d like to think. There’s not an activity under the sun that she’s not been willing to have a go at, resulting in a mediocre ukulele player, part-time blogger, one-time skydiver and an unfinished sitcom script. There’s no room for shades of grey in this half of the partnership; everything comes down to looking after people who are important.

Organising tradesmen is not a task for the fainthearted. But recruiting the right tradesmen, ones who align with our values and are highly skilled at what they do makes for a much more harmonious project management process. Rosie’s role begins with a meeting to discuss your requirements, providing you with a quotation and carries through to the on-site management of your project.

She’s the only Southerner on the team, but we try not to hold it against her too much. If anything, we’ve enjoyed introducing Jade to a vast number of pie shops now she’s a Northern resident. Standing at a phenomenal 5’2”, she is living proof that big things come in small packages; a mix of infectious enthusiasm, laughter, loyalty, authority and uncanny Theresa May impressions.

Communicating with our clients is Jade’s forte. Being highly organised and placing customer satisfaction at the forefront of everything she does means that from enquiry to completion, your queries will be dealt with efficiently. For an in depth knowledge of the material specification of our interior film, Jade is your woman. She will put your mind at rest that not only do we install this product, but we make sure that is the most suitable for your needs.
