Commercial Washroom Door Refurbishment
The Brief
EBM Project Management Ltd approached Fusion Surfaces during the refurbishment of a former nightclub within The Light complex in Leeds city centre. The redevelopment involved transforming the ground floor into a new restaurant while retaining the basement as a nightclub venue. As part of the project, a large number of existing toilet cubicle doors, IPS panels and access panels required updating. Many of the cubicle doors included vision panels and were finished in plain black paint, which no longer suited the design direction of the new venue. Replacing every door would have increased both cost and installation time. Instead, the team explored commercial washroom door refurbishment as a way to modernise the facilities while retaining the existing structures.
The Solution
Following an on-site assessment, we confirmed that the doors and panels were suitable for refurbishment using architectural film.
Working closely with EBM’s design team, we selected a premium 3M Di-Noc concrete-effect finish to create a modern, industrial look that complemented the venue’s updated interior. The project also incorporated custom vinyl graphics to add a distinctive visual element to the washroom spaces.
This approach allowed the refurbishment to combine architectural film with printed graphics while avoiding the need to replace the existing doors.
The Process
Preparation and planning played an important role in keeping the project on schedule.
Our team produced the vinyl graphics in advance, ensuring that installation could focus entirely on wrapping and finishing the doors once work began on site. The refurbishment took place over three days and involved wrapping cubicle doors, IPS panels and access panels throughout the washrooms.
During installation, the team applied the 3M Di-Noc film carefully to create a consistent finish across all surfaces. At the same time, large printed numbers were installed on 24 basement cubicle doors to improve visibility and add a strong design feature.
The Transformation
Once complete, the change was dramatic.
Previously plain black doors were replaced with textured concrete-effect finishes that align with the venue’s contemporary design style. The printed graphics added a bold visual element, particularly within the basement nightclub washrooms.
Through commercial washroom door refurbishment, the venue achieved a cohesive and modern look across all restroom areas without replacing the original doors or panels.

Client Advantages
The project delivered several clear benefits for EBM Project Management:
Existing cubicle doors, IPS panels and access panels refurbished in place
Custom vinyl graphics integrated into the design
3M Di-Noc architectural film used for a durable finish
Installation completed within the project timeline
Significant cost savings compared with replacing all doors
Furthermore, refurbishing the existing doors reduced waste and supported a more sustainable refurbishment approach.
Conclusion
The refurbishment at The Light in Leeds demonstrates how commercial washroom door refurbishment can deliver a high-impact transformation within hospitality and leisure venues.
By combining architectural film with custom vinyl graphics, Fusion Surfaces helped create a modern and visually distinctive washroom environment. The project achieved a strong design result while keeping costs controlled and the refurbishment programme on track.
