Refurbishing washrooms on a budget

Toilets. Admittedly, not the most glamorous topic for discussion. But everyone uses them several times a day. And when we are away from home, whether that be for work or leisure we all still need to go!

On a recent trip to visit family in Bristol, we stopped at a service station to use the loo and grab a bite to eat (not at the same time!) As my husband queued up for his daily dose of caffeine I made my way to the ladies.

It was not a pleasant experience. The toilets smelled. The cubicles were a drab and dingy grey melamine, worn away around the dirty cream plastic handles. I won’t go into detail about the state of the actual toilet, but I’m sure you’re getting the idea.

It put me off eating in the service station. It made the whole place seem dirty and run down and totally unappealing.

Fast forward a month and on a trip to a factory outlet shopping store I visited the toilets and wow! Great lighting, nice large mirrors and modern-looking sinks and taps. And to cap it all off, the cubicles were wrapped in the most attractive tortoiseshell vinyl. They looked smart, modern and above all else, clean and hygienic. It felt safe to eat in the cafe!

High-spec restrooms really are vital in any eating establishment. In fact, one survey found that 94 per cent of customers would never return to a restaurant if its toilets had poor hygiene levels. This is compared to just 10 per cent who would send food back if it contained a hair or was mouldy!

Bathrooms, it seems, could be even more important than the food.

Similarly, your office space, especially when welcoming clients in, should also include a smart and hygienic looking bathroom, in keeping with your brand and how you wish to sell your company’s image. It’s also respectful to your employees that they have a decent loo to use while they are at work.

And with the number of bathrooms we have wrapped, here at Fusion we have become quite the experts on all things toilet!

In fact, we have done so many bathroom fit outs, it’s becoming one of our most popular requests for an upgrade.

We have vinyl wrapped bathrooms in colleges, restaurants, hotels and office blocks, taking them from dinghy and old fashioned to clean and sophisticated in a matter of hours.

So how do we use vinyl in bathroom fit outs?

Basically, any flat surface which is in good condition can be wrapped in our highly durable vinyl. So, IPS panels, doors, cubicles, vanity units (and in gyms and spas we have revamped lockers as well). So, all in all your bathrooms can look a whole lot of brand new without the need to rip out any actual fittings. It’s such a more economically and environmentally better way of working.

So, let’s have a look at one of our fabulous transformations for Office Principles.

The Project Manager asked our team at Fusion to work on a vinyl wrapping bathroom refurbishment in a large office block in Peterborough. The job was to be completed in four phases to ensure as little disruption as possible to the clients.

Working on both male and female cubicles at one time, our installers wrapped the doors, vanity units and strips. There were other contractors on site, but we worked easily around them. It took one day to complete one male and female block.

There was some filling to do and the replacement of some joinery on some of the vanity units. Once completed, the cubicles were transformed from a tired and dated light purple to a modern and classy light grey wood. And, more importantly, the bathrooms are now super hygienic – an absolute must for communal toilets in this day and age!

Vinyl wrapping is such a fast and cost-effective way to make a huge difference to your bathroom. And of course, there are hundreds of different colours, textures and designs to choose from.

The bathrooms we transformed for Manchester College were wrapped in a fabulous zingy lemon – modern and edgy to appeal to the students.

It really is up to you to match the vibe to your space. And we are here to help, armed with a team of fabulous staff, professional installers, and hundreds and hundreds of different colours, textures and looks for your workspace!

Rosie Christie

Co-Founder

Older than the rest of the team, but not necessarily wiser as she’d like to think. There’s not an activity under the sun that she’s not been willing to have a go at, resulting in a mediocre ukulele player, part-time blogger, one-time skydiver and an unfinished sitcom script. There’s no room for shades of grey in this half of the partnership; everything comes down to looking after people who are important.

Organising tradesmen is not a task for the fainthearted. But recruiting the right tradesmen, ones who align with our values and are highly skilled at what they do makes for a much more harmonious project management process. Rosie’s role begins with a meeting to discuss your requirements, providing you with a quotation and carries through to the on-site management of your project.

Jade Mitchell

Co-Founder

She’s the only Southerner on the team, but we try not to hold it against her too much. If anything, we’ve enjoyed introducing Jade to a vast number of pie shops now she’s a Northern resident. Standing at a phenomenal 5’2”, she is living proof that big things come in small packages; a mix of infectious enthusiasm, laughter, loyalty, authority and uncanny Theresa May impressions.

Communicating with our clients is Jade’s forte. Being highly organised and placing customer satisfaction at the forefront of everything she does means that from enquiry to completion, your queries will be dealt with efficiently. For an in depth knowledge of the material specification of our interior film, Jade is your woman. She will put your mind at rest that not only do we install this product, but we make sure that is the most suitable for your needs.
