The Brief

Fusion Surfaces took up an ambitious project at the newly renamed Tough Sheet Community Stadium, home to Bolton Wanderers Football Club. Our task was to revamp the boardroom tables in all executive boxes and to transform several bar areas, including countertops and shelving units. The challenge extended to the Bolton Whites Hotel’s reception pods, which needed to be in sync with the hotel’s modern, upscale interiors.

The Consultation

Jenni, the head of estates at BWFC, reached out to us, inspired by our portfolio. During a comprehensive site visit, Jade surveyed the stadium, discussing potential design choices with Jenni. We recommended the LX Hausys Benif range, a decision that was met with trust and enthusiasm by the club and provided samples of our suggestions to ensure they matched with the vision of the CEO and estates team.

The bar areas, previously wrapped in a lower-quality, DC Fix material, showed signs of wear and were ripe for a professional upgrade. This project was not just about aesthetics but also about durability and functionality.

The Transformation

The transformation journey was remarkable. The Platinum and Macron Suites were reimagined with a luxurious black marble effect, replacing their dated wood and peeling surfaces. The Lion of Vienna Suite underwent a dramatic change, with dual concrete effects creating a subtle contrast for the more industrial feel of this room.

The Process

Navigating through the logistical challenges, our installation unfolded over several weeks, adapting to the stadium’s bustling event schedule. Although football season was over, the summer months at the Tough Sheet Stadium were full of high-profile events and conferences, meaning the project could not be completed in one phase. We undertook evening work to transform the suites without any business implications for the club. As always, preparation was key, involving extensive sanding and the use of heat guns, especially for the curved edges of the boardroom tables.

In the Bolton Whites Hotel, our agility allowed us to work around the hotel’s schedule without hindering their operations. The installation was swift, causing minimal disruption to the hotel staff and guests.

The Outcome

The transformation was met with praise from Jenni and the CEO of Bolton Football Club. They were particularly impressed by the high-quality finish and the extent to which vinyl wrapping could give an immediate uplift to the space. This project not only enhanced the look and feel of the club’s facilities but also aligned with their environmental commitment by preventing furniture disposal.

Client Advantages

By choosing vinyl wrapping using architectural film, BWFC benefitted from a multitude of advantages. The quick turnaround meant minimal disruption to their operations, a critical factor given the ongoing events at the stadium and hotel. The process was clean, efficient, and eco-friendly, aligning with the club’s sustainability goals. Practically, the durable and easy-to-maintain surfaces ensure long-term functionality and appeal.

Conclusion

The makeover of Bolton Wanderers Football Club’s facilities is just one example of how Fusion Surfaces blends innovation with practicality. Our project at the Tough Sheet Community Stadium and Bolton Whites Hotel showcases our commitment not just to aesthetic excellence, but also to sustainable, impactful solutions. We’re in the business of not just changing spaces, but enhancing experiences – whether it’s for a booked-out football club or a calming hotel reception.

Rosie Christie

Co-Founder

Older than the rest of the team, but not necessarily wiser as she’d like to think. There’s not an activity under the sun that she’s not been willing to have a go at, resulting in a mediocre ukulele player, part-time blogger, one-time skydiver and an unfinished sitcom script. There’s no room for shades of grey in this half of the partnership; everything comes down to looking after people who are important.

Organising tradesmen is not a task for the fainthearted. But recruiting the right tradesmen, ones who align with our values and are highly skilled at what they do makes for a much more harmonious project management process. Rosie’s role begins with a meeting to discuss your requirements, providing you with a quotation and carries through to the on-site management of your project.

Jade Mitchell

Co-Founder

She’s the only Southerner on the team, but we try not to hold it against her too much. If anything, we’ve enjoyed introducing Jade to a vast number of pie shops now she’s a Northern resident. Standing at a phenomenal 5’2”, she is living proof that big things come in small packages; a mix of infectious enthusiasm, laughter, loyalty, authority and uncanny Theresa May impressions.

Communicating with our clients is Jade’s forte. Being highly organised and placing customer satisfaction at the forefront of everything she does means that from enquiry to completion, your queries will be dealt with efficiently. For an in depth knowledge of the material specification of our interior film, Jade is your woman. She will put your mind at rest that not only do we install this product, but we make sure that is the most suitable for your needs.
