Staycity Aparthotels
The Brief
Staycity Aparthotel in Birmingham, known for their commitment to sustainability, sought to refurbish 15 apartments without contributing to landfill waste. The refurbishment included three internal doors, a wardrobe in each apartment, and the guest side of the door. Inspired by a successful trial room wrapped in October, Staycity engaged Fusion Surfaces to extend this sustainable solution across multiple apartments using architectural film that matched their brand RAL colour.

The Consultation
“After our initial success in October, Staycity was eager to roll out the transformation across more apartments,” said Rosie, Director at Fusion Surfaces. The follow-up inspection in February showed that our architectural film had withstood the test of time, maintaining its pristine appearance. This reassurance allowed us to confidently select LX Hausys material in the brand’s RAL colour, ensuring consistency and durability in high-traffic environments.
The Process
The logistical challenge was significant, given the operational nature of the hotel. “We coordinated with the main contractor to schedule our installation during a broader refurbishment phase when the rooms would be out of use,” Rosie explained. Over two days, five skilled installers wrapped 45 internal doors, 15 wardrobes, and 15 guest-side doors. Preparation was key; each white-painted door was sanded down for a smooth wrapping surface, ensuring a flawless finish.
The Transformation
The transformation leveraged 300 meters of LX Hausys architectural film, refreshing the dated furniture with a new, modern look that integrated with the wider fit-out project. “The dark grey effect we introduced replaced the stark white doors, bringing more warmth to each apartment,” noted Rosie. This choice not only improved the aesthetics but also enhanced the overall guest experience by aligning with Staycity’s stylish interiors.
The Outcome
The project’s completion marked a significant improvement in the aesthetics and functionality of the apartments. Staycity’s management was thrilled with the quality of our work; the doors and wardrobes looked brand new, as if they were freshly installed. Pleased with the outcomes, Staycity has committed to a further large-scale implementation of this sustainable refurbishing approach at another location.
Client Advantages
For Staycity, the primary benefit of this project extended beyond cost savings; it was about upholding their commitment to sustainability. “By opting to wrap rather than replace, we helped Staycity prevent a substantial amount of waste from reaching the landfill—a testament to their green credentials,” Rosie highlighted. This project not only saved resources but also reinforced Staycity’s reputation as an environmentally responsible business.
Conclusion
The Staycity Aparthotel project shows how architectural film can transform commercial interiors efficiently and sustainably. “This isn’t just refurbishment; it’s about making a responsible choice that benefits our clients and the environment,” Rosie concluded. Fusion Surfaces continues to support businesses like Staycity in achieving their aesthetic and environmental goals through innovative surface solutions.
