Manchester College
The Brief
The Consultation
With a project on this scale, the consultation phase was crucial in aligning our vision with the college’s needs. Rosie met with the Head of Facilities to conduct a thorough assessment of the six bathrooms. This phase was not just about taking measurements; it involved understanding the daily usage, the visual goals, and the practical requirements of a busy college environment. The College had already explored its options of spraying the cubicles and had received quotes for replacing the entire cubicle systems.
During these discussions, it became evident that the college sought more than just a facelift for their bathrooms. They needed a solution that was both durable and visually appealing. The decision to use vinyl wrapping was driven by the need for a high-quality finish that would withstand the frequent use and rigorous demands of a college setting. We presented various material options, focusing on those that offered longevity and ease of maintenance. The team at Fusion Surfaces recommended the LX Hausys RS range for its proven durability and vibrant colour options.
As with all projects, collaboration was key throughout this phase. By working closely with the college’s in-house team, we ensured that our proposed solutions complemented the wider refurbishment plans. The selection of bold yellow and grey colours was a deliberate choice to invigorate the space with a lively palette that was also on-brand.
Addressing the logistical aspects, such as the coordination with plumbers and joiners for dismantling and reassembling the facilities, and also hygiene cladders for each bathroom, was an essential part of our consultation. We laid out a detailed plan that prioritised efficiency and minimal disruption, fitting perfectly within the college’s tight holiday schedule.
This comprehensive consultation process set a solid foundation for the project, ensuring that every detail was meticulously planned and agreed upon, paving the way for a smooth and successful execution.
The Process
Two trial bathrooms were initially installed, to ensure that the clients were completely happy and satisfied with the work. They were delighted with the results and so we went ahead on the remaining four bathrooms.
It took two installers just four weeks to complete, taking place during the college holiday period to avoid any disruption to students.
There was a lot of preparation work for this project. All urinals and IPS panels needed deep cleaning before vinyl wrapping could go ahead. New sinks were installed and all the tiles were removed. The walls needed plastering before the hygiene cladding was installed. We then dismantled all of the cubicles so that we could wrap them.
