Inspired Projects – Homes 4 Students
The Brief
Simon Lane from Inspired Projects approached us with a unique project for Homes 4 Students. Their goal was to give their student bedrooms a sustainable makeover without discarding any furniture in good condition. Our task was to cost and install a sample show flat, showcasing the potential of using vinyl wrap to refresh existing furniture and bathroom doors.
Location:
Preston
Duration:
4 Weeks
Sector:
Student Accommodation
The Consultation
There were several stakeholders involved in the consultation process. However, once the project was proposed, we agreed to wrap an entire flat (5 bedrooms) of furniture along with other contractors from the wider fit-out. Before we began, we liaised with the interior designer on the project to suggest suitable finishes and send samples to achieve the look and design they wanted for the existing furniture.
The Process
Upon successfully completing the sample rooms, we expanded the project to the remaining 100 rooms over the summer period. With a team of four skilled installers, we efficiently worked on one room per day, per installer. The vinyl wrapping process included desks, shelves, headboards, wardrobes, and bathroom doors. Seamlessly collaborating with painting and joinery contractors, we encountered very few obstacles throughout the project.
The Transformation
With the furniture in the rooms now a modern, grey wood effect, they are much more appealing to the Gen Z student who will live in them. The grey wood compliments the overall renovation of the rooms, paired with a stylish green feature wall and new carpets.
The Outcome
The end result exceeded the expectations of Inspired Projects. Simon said “Fusion Surfaces were our wrapping contractor on a 100 No. Bed student accommodation refurbishment during Summer 2022. As a company, they are very user-friendly, and delivered a high-quality job on time and within budget, delivering real value to the overall scheme. In particular, Rosie and Jade were a pleasure to work with and clearly had the operation underway from the get-go through to completion.”
Client Advantages
In boosting the overall aesthetic of the rooms, Homes 4 Students were able to increase the weekly rent on the refurbished student rooms, all of which sold out well before the summer was over. They will now get an extra 7+ years out of the perfectly good furniture and have saved masses in their contribution to landfill.
Conclusion
Inspired Projects were delighted with the transformation and are now exploring plans to implement this vinyl wrapping approach across their remaining blocks, potentially extending into 2026. At Fusion, we take pride in delivering sustainable solutions that breathe new life into living spaces.
